Upper Dolpo is a restricted region in northwest Nepal, behind the Dhaulagiri range, where the land looks like Tibetan plateau desert. The trek starts at Juphal and crosses passes above 5,000 m, including Kagmara La and Numa La. You camp most nights, since there are almost no lodges. Along the way you see Phoksundo Lake, Shey Gompa, Tibetan Buddhist and Bon villages, and maybe blue sheep or a snow leopard.
