Middle East Disruptions Reshape Global Plastics Pricing Trends
Georgie Bill· 9/21/2026
Plastics pricing intelligence covers thermoplastics, polyesters, and copolymers, with thermoplastics showing mixed movements in July 2026. HDPE, LLDPE, and PP strengthened in the first half of the month as Middle East disruptions affected petrochemical flows, feedstock costs, and polymer availability, but momentum weakened later as buyers remained cautious and downstream demand stayed uneven. Strait of Hormuz disruptions tightened global chemical supply and increased plastics and polymer prices, while weak demand persisted across key end markets. Styrenics recovered mid-month as benzene and styrene prices strengthened amid limited prompt availability and renewed crude-linked supply concerns, while PVC remained weak due to high inventories, aggressive export offers, and subdued construction demand, with prices moving toward pre-conflict levels as buyers delayed purchases. Polyesters followed selective trends, with EVA strengthening later in the month and PET recovering unevenly before giving back some gains. Overall, the market continued to balance supply-chain uncertainty with adequate inventories, cautious procurement, and uneven demand across packaging, construction, automotive, electronics, textiles, and solar applications.
